After passing half a century in martial arts
Whew. Time flies. In 10 more days I will be 58! Of those years I have been involved in martial arts for 51 years. Starting off in Judo at the age of six and picking up Goju Ryu Karate at the age of 21. To satisfy my urge for "reality checks", entered the full contact word of Kyokushinkai at 23.
Along the way, finished up 28 years of Federal Service in Japan and retired last year. Returned to my home in Hawaii and got hit with incredibly high-cost of living here, resulting in returning to the labor force.
I started a Dojo in Yokohama, Japan which is in its 18th year and is now being run by several of my students. I have started a Dojo here in Honolulu and also help out at a friend's Dojo.
I feel that I have come full circle in my martial arts and currently enjoying questioning and analyzing all that I have learned in the past 51 years, especially Katas.
Hope to have some interesting discussions with regard to Katas with fellow Convocation members.
Aloha
