Hello Fellow Bloggers,
I guess you can see the humor, you know, when you make a change and all of a sudden - nothing is working right? Well generally you might just undo whatever you just did to get back on even ground.
Well last night I was experimenting with 125x125 ads and was trying out several widgets but found that none of them seemed to be working correctly. I finally did finagle one widget to work but I found after I had configured everything and verified on another instance of my web page - it was set up perfectly.
Imagine my surprise after logging off and discovering another tweak I wanted to do and I could not logon back on. It was already 10pm and I was getting tired.
Ok as a seasoned IT geek I started to figure out a game plan. I looked at wordpress.org for guidance. I found none so I started with Google and eventually noticed references to MySQL administration and tweaks. While I am a wintel system administrator I am not all that comfortable with database administration (mostly monkey see - monkey do with SQL). I then noticed someone mentioning going into FTP and deleting the offending widget after first deactivating it.
Well you can imagine my thought processes... trying to figure out when my last export was and what my back out plan was. The site was still up and I know the recent versions of Word Press allow for the automatic disablement of non-function plugins so I connected and deleted the offending plugin!
That worked! - 45 minutes after killing my access, I was back to cooking with oil!
Anyway I ended up using static html code to produce the ads. I though I'd share the cause of my blood pressure spike last night.
I hope all is well in bloggingdom!
