Should we use them instead of the Forum Groups, or in addition to?

I am starting to lean that way, too. It looks like there may be some benefit to some specific groups, but also having a general forum area. What do you think otherwise? Amanda was impressed that she had so much control over her own information (and it's more user-friendly).

The groups are fine - but until you have 500 plus members, most people will use the general forums - they just tend to migrate that way, I would do both.
